This week we’ve been rehearsing a new piece by Teodora Stepancic, preparing it for the conservatory’s “opening concert” this Monday. It’s a really fun piece: quiet (yet explosive!) and jittery by turns, with tight little rhythms threaded between the instruments. Indeed, the instruments themselves are threaded together with a single strand of twine, which Teodora occasionally pulls from side to side, in effect “playing” the entire ensemble. Good stuff. Should be a good concert.
I’m heading up to Amsterdam this afternoon to visit this music shop, in search of a new combo amp. The Gallien-Krueger MB150S-III looks compelling at only 12 kilos, but we’ll see what they actually have in stock. I like GK amps and the price and weight are right, so we’ll see. I still feel loyal to SWR’s Baby Blue preamps, but the “new” Baby Baby Blue is twice the weight of the GK, and is already out of production, apparently. Why do they make these things for such a short time?
John McCain has just chosen Sarah Palin for his running mate. This two-year governor of an isolated, rural state, with no international (or, indeed, national) political experience is ready to be a “heartbeat away” from the presidency? Scary stuff, if you ask me. Hopefully this lame decision will clinch victory for Obama, but I’m not convinced. Apparently she hadn’t even traveled outside of the U.S. until 2007, when she went to Kuwait and Germany. I just can’t believe it. If she’s intelligent then she should be scared silly at the prospect of being the V.P., let alone the president.
several hours later...
Back from Amsterdam. I ended up purchasing the GK amp I mentioned above. I can’t believe how good it sounds, and how small it is! I’m in business....
